SPOTLIGHT: Tesco offers consumer WiFi VoIP service
U.K. supermarket conglomerate Tesco is now offering yet another lower-cost VoIP service. Tesco is using Freshtel’s service to offer cheap dual-mode cellular/WiFi VoIP calls over WiFi. The service requires a download, and, currently, the only handsets being supported are Nokia’s Series 60 line; more handsets are expected to be added soon.
Earlier in the year, Tesco signed a five-year, $200 million deal with C&W to set up more than 1,800 Tesco sites with VoIP and mobile UC functionality, including picocell deployment.
