Will “smart wallet” applications for mobile devices (i.e. phones) drive consumer and business UC?  Art Rosenberg at UC Strategies thinks so.

Financial applications for mobile “smart phone” users should provide the foundation for integrated applications tying together a customer’s current financial status with a customer contact center, triggering an action if certain events were met. For instance, a customer could be proactively notified if his bank account was overdrawn, and options could be provided for either accessing an IVR application or immediate access to a customer agent to deal with the problem.

Such applications would bring along business UC applications, since the business - in this case the financial industry - would have to be up to speed with its customer contact center and self-service apps.

Add in additional silicon to the phone for contactless transactions, and banks are lining up to offer mobile transactions. UC is the glue to make things work more smoothly for all involved.
